COMPLAINTS AS A49 LITTER SOARS

Vivienne Parry, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow South is calling on Highways England to increase efforts to clear the mounting piles of litter along verges to the A49 around Ludlow

Vivienne said: "The long periods of lockdown have had a major impact on our areas both in terms of collection of litter coupled with a serious upsurge in litter being dropped on the roadside especially along main roads. roundabouts and junctions are particularly bad. I've noticed that the junctions leading to Sheet Road, Ludlow, Richards Castle, and Ashford Carbonell are amongst the worst.

"In addition, some roads off the A49 are looking a mess. I spent several hours picking litter off the verges on Sheet Road and there was a lot left to collect. It's clear that both Council and the Highways Agency have scaled back dramatically on litter clearing but worryingly it also suggests that some motorists are throwing more litter."

Vivienne is asking residents to take their litter home if they are traveling and report any concentrations of rubbish either to her or Shropshire Council. Likewise, if these see any fly-tipping, another increasing trend, then get in touch.
